Russ Dewbury and Man About Town proudly present “I Like It Like That” a unique live/dj party showcasing the gritty urban sound of Latin music.

Following our recent “Brazilian Funk Affair” sell out sessions we’re taking it back to the roots and a revisit into Latin music 70s style – Nu Yorican Hustle!

New York’s melting pot of Puerto Rican, Cuban and Afro-American musicians led to stunning culture clashes in the 70s when Latin styles mixed with Disco, Funk,  Soul and Boogie to produce new hybrids. Artists like Tito Puente, Joe Bataan, Eddie Palmieri, Candido, Ray Barretto and many more led the way alongside lesser known names like Mandrill and War who emerged from the NY Latin scene. In the 1960s Fania Records had defined the Latin Soul  sound - In the 1970s, Salsoul Records would take on the baton mixing Salsa, Soul and Funk to release stunning Latin Disco crossover material such as Candido’s ‘Dancin and Prancin’, which would go on to be a million seller. Salsoul, become one of the largest Disco labels in the world (whilst still making Latin records!) and manufactured the first ever 12" singles.

Nu Yorican Hustle brings all of this creative energy together in one sensational session featuring,

The 11 piece I Like it Like That Orchestra return to the Basement after stunning shows in 09 to unleash a classic live mix of Nu Yorican Disco, Funk and Soul giving us a snapshot of the 70s NY Latin Disco movement and getting you on the floor all night long.

Dj Russ Dewbury (Uk) from “A Night at the Jazz Rooms” alongside top Latin selector Man About Town dropping a brilliant collection of uplifting Latin/Funk/Disco and Boogie floor fillers.

Come to party - will sell out!!
